I would wait. Kaji had a growth spurt between 12-18 months. He didn't get his buddy belt until his third birthday. Meanwhile, we were using cloth ones, similar to the pippia harnesses, but the ones sold at Petco. I liked those because they didn't chafe my crazy puller, but the fit was always off. I'm much happier with my buddy belt, it fits like a glove.
