Even if a breeder is on "referral," you will not be able to register a pup purchased after the date the breeder was notified they are in that status.

The only way to be sure is to call AKC and ask if the breeder is in good standing. Ask the breeder for their full name (first and last) as well as their kennel name.

I learned the hard way . . . my breeder wasn't suspended but under referral and Carter still isn't registered and may never be able to be AKC registered.
