I agree that a collar should never be used to walking your pet. I did not even use a collar for tags at first. I preferred her not having anything rubbing on her fur. When she was about 5 months old she started bolting out the front door whenever someone would open it. It gave me a few good scares as catching her was so difficult. She is so fast! So I got her a break away cat collar with a bell on it! It's very cute. I even left the bell on because it helps me locate her in the house as she tends to blend into things when she takes a nap some where unusual. Now she is microchipped and has an ID tag on her collar. I think microchipping is important but if she ever got lost I would feel much better knowing she had he tags on her as well.
