So I always thought I was a well educated individual. I am an undergrad business student and a teaching assistant for 8 different courses this semester. It is my job to proofread, edit, and mark things.
Well I just sought out a new book, to improve my english (I was getting tired of trying to defend my markings to students with a lower level book used in the class). I bought an upper level english book. I must say I'm on page 17 and am already ashamed

I've already learned that I don't know anything about complicated homonyms, and I, despite being Canadian, do not actually use British english, I use a hybrid of US and British. It's dreadfully inconsistent. :S
If anyone is looking to assess their english ability "Grammatically correct" by Anne Stilman is very interesting.
So here's my question, when was the last time you sat down and really assessed your writing? Do you think you could pass a 5th grade grammar test? :P
I think our elementary schools are really missing some of the fundamentals, high schools too. Cause I'm learning stuff I never learned in my early school years.
