I've tried it all, and the best solution I've found is to just drop them in the tub (or sink) under some warm water. If you just pour water on the legs where it's worst, it doesn't take too long to blowdry afterward.

Blowdrying just takes too long. And, you're right, the long-legged coats work, but it takes time to put them on. Also, you really need one that fits perfectly or they restrict their movement too much.
