That is my concern with painted crates, especially if the OPs dog is a puppy or a chewer. They are probably fine for an adult that can be trusted not to chew on the crate.
Levi has a only a plastic crate with the door removed (we just use it for his man cave/hangout
), so I'm little use for crate recommendations. But I've always been wary of the painted wire ones.
