In my opinion the same rules apply for a neuter or spay. Unless there is staff at hand overnight, I don't see it being better for them to stay. I would feel better bringing my pup home where I can watch him overnight, and rush him to the ER vet in a worst case scenario. In my case, Kaji needed to be watched during the middle of the night. The pain meds he received didn't agree with him. I didn't get any sleep trying to keep him from bouncing off the walls.
