We got Hot Rod 2 weeks before Christmas and started him on pads. It was easier cause we were able to watch him and figure out his signs for when he needed to go and put him on the pad. We also started to use a phrase that we only use for pottying. You can say it once he is in the act so he will associate it. Once he learns it, you can say it so he will know what you want him to do.
Once the weather got warmer we started potty training. He pretty much took to pottying outside without any problems, but then we have a lot of wildlife around here leaving their scents. lol
