Another thing that makes them last longer is the moisture content; some have much more moisture and therefore are softer so the dog can chew them more easily. I look for ones with low moisture content, and I'm very happy with Merrick's Bully Sticks. They are more expensive, but a 6 inch one can last a week, and Joey chews on it every night. If your dog can chew a stick in an hour, it's more of a snack than a chewing aid. The idea is to give them something safer than bones, yet hard enough to actually chew on, and this is where they are most effective in cleaning teeth.
