It can be difficult. I did it once recently but I just knew he wasn't the kind of dog for me or the best fit so I kept telling myself that.

I took in a Dachshund from a friend of a family friend and he wasn't being "abused" per say but wasn't treated very well. Was missing a ton of hair due to some kind of terrible flea allergy, nails were super long, under-exercised, kept in crate for long hours.... anyways, got him, had him at my house for not even a day, he was such a lovebug. But he needed vet care, knew I couldn't really afford it, brought him to our local rescue... I CRIED when I dropped him off. I had only known this dog one day and bawled like a baby. It was hard for me. But two weeks later, he found a really good home and is happy as can be and it makes me feel better!
