We had the same problem with our little Harry - but I actually managed to find a really marvellous person on our 'local' (i.e. Surrey) Gumtree. Have you looked on there? Obviously you'll need to pre-interview them, check their insurance etc etc but it's a start!
Otherwise, have you advertised yourself on Gumtree for what you're looking for? In the 'petsitters + dog walkers - wanted' section?
I wonder if you've checked with local vets where people sometimes advertise this kind of service, or put your own ad up in them?
