I neglected answering a question. Yes, there is always someone at the vet's office. They're not a vet, but a vet tech. They're only there to keep an eye on and take care of the animals who are ill or in boarding. I (assume) they call the actual vet if one of the animals in their care needs attention. They don't accept pets during that shift, and the office itself is locked up (closed). There's an after hours emergency veterinary clinic that they work in cooperation with, though...separate location.
