Fish oil: Can I take a capsule, poke a hole with a pin, & squirt this over her food once a day. How much should be used?
Hydrocortisone: Can I use made-for-human cream? Or, better yet, is there a topical spray or something that wouldn't be so greasy?
I've been using 1.5 ml of Children's Benadryl which helps (she's 3.5 lbs.)& I'm going to mix ground oatmeal added to her shampoo as suggested in this forum. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! |
I would get a prescription shampoo from your vet, if this is ongoing allergies...there are some nice ingredients in 'scrip shampoos. Usually, a vet derm will say to bathe at least 2x a week at first, and then taper off as symptoms improve.
Talk to your vet about using Zyrtec or Claritin - these are both 24 hour meds; where as Benadryl is supposed to be given 3-4x a day, which can be tough. Our Derm feels that Zyrtec and Claritin have better efficacy too.
I like Ark Naturals Royal Coat for a fish oil - it already has the Vit E in it, so you don't have to buy add'l Vit E. It comes in a bottle, so no messy capsules.
Allergies are very complicated....so I can't recommend highly enough that you see a Vet Derm. Sure, it's not cheap -- but I sure wish I'd gone to one right away bc I spend hundreds at my regular vet, which didn't help. Whereas the Derm was just wonderful, and such an expert at skin issues.
