We've used disposables and washables - I like the washables better. Gracie doesn't care, I just don't want to be bothered with the contraption that keeps the disposable locked in so she won't shred it. We keep them on the carpet in several rooms and there is no leakage at all. I wash them in detergent and vinegar which takes most of the urine smell out - at least I can't smell it, which is the whole point! I think you should avoid fabric softener or softener sheets as that could affect how absorbent they are. I change them out every day - she'll use them several times but they do get a little smelly after the pees three or four time (she pees for treats - aarrgghh - so sometimes it's more often than necessary!).
