I used the washable pads for a while because several members here recommended them but let me tell you about my own experience with them.

I loved them...at first...then I started stepping in wet spots on my throw rugs. Once the rugs were 'marked' the smell was there no matter how many times I washed them or what they were washed in...the smell just gives them 'permission' to use the rug.

I have stopped using the washable pads except to cover the seat or my lap when we go for a ride (we have one that gets carsick sometimes) and I take one when we go to the vet to cover the metal exam table.

I switched back to the disposable pads with the tray, or without, and things are back to normal. We put a disposable pad down if we leave for the day and at night when we go to bed...other than that my girls go outside to the back yard. We have a new house with new carpet and no accidents...ever...and my throw rugs are, once again, safe.
