Is this a desktop or a laptop? My experiences are desktops. To replace my power supply was under 100 each time it happened. They should be able to tell when trying to power on your computer if it is the power supply. It makes noises like it's trying to power on but nothing really ever happens, like it's trying but there's just not enough power to run it. I've never had a falty on/off switch.
