A pee string is what many show breeders use, especially if they have a long coat, it directs the urine away from the coat. If your dog has a short coat this isn't as important, although I know some people complain about their dogs getting urine on their tummy or inside legs. Joey's breeder leaves the string on even though Joeys coat is short now. No dribbles with a pee string! By the way, the hair doesn't have to be thick on the pee string or even very long.
