Default What am I doing wrong or what did I do wrong?

Help!
My yorkshire terrier is now 9 months old and his ears have dropped. His ears were upright from 8 weeks to 7 months. But, the last two months they have become droopy. He seems to lift them occasionally. But, by default they are floppy.

I have shaved most of the hair off of them and trimmed around the rim of the ear. But, I don't know if I am doing it right or what happened that his ears are like this. Both of his parents have upright ears and so does his birth sister.

I am confused. I have attached a picture of how the hair looks on his ears presently. I hope I didn't do something wrong to make them irreversibly floppy.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.
