Congratulations on your new family member. The 'size' thing will always be with you. I place the responsibility with AKC. With improved nutrition, people and animals have gotten bigger. But AKC still wants 4 -7 # dogs. For a Yorkie to settle below 7#, they need to be just 4# or so at a year old. That's simply unreasonable if they're fed properly. Unless you're showing your baby, a more reasonable adult weight would be 10# or more. That's still a very small dog.
