I would definitely get the test done. Unfortunately, resistant bacteria are plaguing human medicine and are also found in veterinary medicine. I would get the test done, especially since the pet store has been paying for everything but the ER visit so far. The type of bacteria afflicting someone determines which antibiotic will work in the situation. Unfortunately, different bacteria respond to different antibiotics to kill it.

The only question I would have for the vet would be what are the complications that can occur in a pup that young? If there is a high complication rate in doing a biopsy on such a young pup, then that would give me pause.
