If Gizmo has acted in an aggressive manner (which apparently he did or the Mail Dude wouldn't have had the notice sent) he has one strike against him. If you feel like Giz has been unfairly accused then you should do what it takes to clear his name, go to the extreme of apologizing if necessary. As it stands, if Gizmo was to bite someone and they had to go to the doctor or to the hospital for treatmet, chances are the medical facility would notify the cops who could very likely come and arrest poor Gizmo and he already has one strike. "Dangerous dogs" are often euthanized without much forethought and afterthought doesn't matter.
