A slicker is not necessary for Yorkie coats. Some people use them, especially on cotton coats. I used a tiny flea comb to comb Max from head to toe his first 6 months.

There are many detangling aids: Cowboy magic, corn starch, Pet Silk Silk serum. Anything that gives the hair "slip" so that you can pull apart the tangle.

The thickness of the coat and the rate it grows depends on the individual pup.

Stay on top of the combing and brushing daily to avoid tangles and mats. Keeping the coat clean also helps. Use a good shampoo and conditioner. What kind are you using now? Some products can contribute to dandruff.
