Ellie could use your thoughts and prayers This morning, Ellie somehow severely injured her neck. She was not playing with our other dog at the time and she was not dropped. I wasn't even home. We have no idea how it happened.
She is screaming when put in certain positions, shaking, laying on her belly and not moving, etc. On palpation, her vet isolated the problem to the right side of her neck.
There are a few possibilities. The best case scenario is a muscle injury of some type. It is possible that she has something growing in her spine. It is also very possible that it is IVDD (she already has it in her lumbar-sacral spine).
It doesn't appear that she has any neurological deficit; however, with the drug she was given it would be impossible to assess right now. She was barely moving before, and now with the drug she isn't moving at all. At times (although in all other ways perfectly medically stable), she looks like she isn't going to make it. We are devastated. Hoping that it is just some benign pain or something that will heal in a few weeks, but in reality it may not. Her vet told me that because we don't know what it is, she may get better and she may...not.
We are considering a neurology consult. Trying to find the best in the area, etc. Going through to surgery is highly unlikely, however. So there may or may not be a point in finding one. Cervical spine IVDD can be managed medically before trying anything invasive in some (non or mostly non neuro) cases. AAI has crossed my mind, but she is 10 with no past neck issues. We are just hoping she doesn't paralyze. If she isn't walking much by tomorrow, we'll probably go to the neuro to see what they have to say.
Thoughts and prayers would be very much appreciated.
