I'm not sure if you understand that you don't want to give chicken and rice for long periods of time. Even if you are giving regular dog food at one feeding the chicken and rice feeding is lacking in nutrients. A five pound dog needs as much calcium as an adult woman and it getting no calcium in the chicken and rice. The amount of calcium in food is so low that dog food manufactures have to supplement it. In the wild, dogs eat bones which are rich in calcium, but unfortunately, can also cause multiple problems for your pet dog. They do not need a warm meal on a cold night, that just “sounds good”, it doesn’t do anything for them. Better to turn on the heat or put him in a sweater. Anyway, glad things are normal for now, but remember, long term chicken and rice aren't providing everything your dog needs.
