I don't think it is normal. His blood sugar may be getting low? do you have nutrical or corn syrup? Put a dab on your finger and let him lick it off.
Low blood sugar can be very dangerous. Please take him to get checked by your vet if you are worried. It is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry.
