Animal Smiley 036 Got a new baby this Friday-need advice!

Good morning all,

I have been a member since 2009 but this is my first post.

This Froday my husband and I decided to add to our family and we got a little girl yorkie (11 weeks) that we named Sofie Madison. We already have a yorkie (he will be 3 in February) named Brody Kingston.

We agonized over this decision for about a year, but we finally decided b/c Brody was getting very lethargic and lazy and a little chubby to be honest and we thought a new pup might perk him up. Whenever we bring him to my parents house (they have an 11 year old yorkie) he loves to run around and play with her.

So Friday, when we brought Sofie home, I went in the bedroom with Brody and played with him and my husband brought Sofie into the office and after awhile...we let Brody out so he could "discover" Sofie. We praised him when he did.

So far his attitude towards her ranges from indifference to running away from her when she approaches to play with him, to growling a bit when he is cornered by her. We are crate training her in the office and we have a baby gate up so she hasn't been able to access the rest of the house at all. (he has free range) Plus at night she sleeps in the office in her crate and he sleeps with us in his doggie bed in our bedroom. And when she is crated, we play with him alone and give him lots of attention.

This morning (I work from home in the office) I took her out of the crate and am planning to let her play & run around as I work. I called Brody in to the office as well, since the wee wee pad is in there, he uses it as well and we are trying to train them to use the same one. He started shaking and drooling and looking to be let back into the bedroom where his bed is. We have not brought his bed into the office bc we dont want her taking ownership of it. He had a second bed in the office that she has now claimed and now he refuses to go in it.

So currently I am locked in the office with Sofie and he is in our bedroom in his bed. I'm not sure if this is normal, and if he just needs time to warm up to her. Should I force the issue and make him stay in the office with us? I don't want him to feel secluded but I also don't want to give him anxiety by making him stay in the office. I was really hoping for them to get along and for him to have a playmate.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
