One is a regular driller/driver and the other is an impact driver. This is a nice set and 18V is the power to go with. Impact drivers have more torque and go in bursts. They are great for going through hard material or if you need to get a screw or bolt out that is stuck in something. It gives a stronger burst of power to get the bolt or screw moving if its stuck...like when something is rusted together.
