Hi,
I usually put the pups on to nurse as soon as they are born and then remove them before the next one whelps...the mothers don't always appreciate it at first. Watch the pups carefully until she gets used to them. After they are all whelped there is plenty of time for a really good nursing! I am sure Pat will have much more to add, but I hope this is a start...
