Default Hyperthyroidism, how common in Yorkies?

I have been chatting with a few people in a raw food email group about Turbies allergies. After I began feeding raw food, alot of her allergies went away- but not all.

She has a oily, flaky, dull coat, still chews her feet, and her hair hasn't been growing as fast as it used to. I just dont feel that shes as healthy as she could be.

I was told that this could be signs of hyperthyroidism and suggested a doctor for me to send her blood samples to. Im all about trying to find out what is wrong with her.

But before I just make an apointment at the Vet, spend the money to ship and have the test done, (over $100 on my college student budget). I just want to hear others opinions/experiences on this.
