Jackson would never stand for being crated overnight far away from me - ever since he was a pup, boy he would tell me what he wanted. He would also bark forever, not stopping for hours. I know you are not supposed to give in but I always knew he'd be in my bed anyways so the first night we tried, he slept thru the night and the rest is history. However, he was never peeing on the floor.

Any way you could make sure he stays on the bed? Even if you have to attach him to a leash in your bed for a few nights so you can maybe feel him moving. Or put the crate right next to your bed. When Jackson was a pup, I put the crate on my night stand.
