There's certainly a trade-off, but, I have never regretted "not" socializing my Dogs as many do. They both are very territorial and protective, and will not let a stranger pick them up. Actually we play games to make them dodge and run, if someone reaches for them. And get VERY suspicious of anyone "sweet talking" them.

I count very heavily (at my age) on their alertness and vigorous barking, when anything comes close to the house. I do have a command for "allow" for the Groomer and Vet, but those two are about the only "strangers" who handle mine. I'd much rather people think I had "aggressive" dogs, rather than have just anyone come up and be able to make off with them.

I have a security system that's infallible, and works 24/7/365 reliably.
