A similar thing happened to my grandmother about a month ago. She got a phone call from someone saying they were her grandson and were in jail in Canada. She asked which grandson and he said "The handsome one". He said he needed $2,500 to get out of jail. She believed him but said she wanted to take the phone upstairs to grandpa. Fortunately, the guy hung up at that point. My grandfather had to explain to her that it was a scam and she didn't believe him until he googled it and showed her.
It's pretty scary and doesn't take much to get scammed... |
