The same thing happened to me. They got my password to my e-mail (which I gave to them unknowingly - see below) and sent a message to a bunch of people that I was over in the UK and had gotten hit over the head with a club and all my money was stolen, and to please send money so I could get home.

They also wiped out all my e-mails that I currently had, and everyone in my address book. I was so embarrassed because I didn't know who all it went to.

I wouldn't have known what was happening if my brother hadn't gotten one of the e-mails and notified me.

I called my e-mail provider and they straightened everything out. I ended up having to change my password.

I remembered then that I had given out my password (which I know NOT to do) to someone saying they were with my e-mail provider and needed to know my password to upgrade my account, and I FELL for it! I still can't believe I did that.

So the moral of the story is - Don't give out your password to anyone!!!
