Just wanted to add: human/baby products can contain artificial sweetners, some of which may be deadly for a dog. Listerine contains 24.6% alcohol

, among other things.
A descent dog toothpaste is enzymatic... that means that even if you can't do a super job brushing, the enzymes in the toothpaste will continue to work on his teeth long after you stop. It comes in chicken or beef flavors, which I think any puppy would prefer over minty alcohol, lol. Or they make gels that you just apply to the gumline, brushing is not a requirement with some of these.
In a pinch you can use a little bit of baking soda, but it will give him diarrhea if he eats too much of it.
