Well, maybe your dog does not want you to be so close to a dog that he does not feel is part of his family. When you bring the puppy home and make your little guy realize that it is now a family member (or pack member) he will learn to be accepting of it. I'm sure it will take some careful socializing on your part. Maybe let your husband do the majority of the handling at first and slowly work your way into it. He was once good with another dog so I would think he will accept another one if the puppy is brought into the family in a way he can accept it.
