WEll something I learned last month when attending a weekend seminar, Training the Canine Athlete; dewclaws at least the front ones for sure, are actually utilized in certain aspects of agility (think the teeter totter, the boardwalk), in flyball turns, etc.

There is some lovely slo mo action we looked at and you could really see that the dogs were spreading their paws and using the dew claw on the front to help with balancing and turning.
