I can't really make a recommendation on a point and shoot, as honestly there are so many good ones out there now that it is hard to choose. But for point and shoots, I do prefer Canons. If you go to the electronics store and browse and play with cameras, then look online at the costumer reviews of the models you like, you will get some good ideas. The term you are referring to about the shutter is called "shutter lag". Look for reviews that say there is NO shutter lag. Hope this helps a bit!
