Hi Ciscos Mom,

My 3 year old Yorkie Chelsie has collapsed trachea.
She had the stent surgery this summer...it's been a bit of a nightmare.
(You can probably find posts from August 2005 regarding her surgery)

But to answer your question, just my opinion, I think it is hereditary.
Dogs with collapsed trachea have very weak cartilage to begin with.
That would come from their parents~
My dog never wore a collar, I think any kind of impact to their cartilage, if it is weak would be bad. Like putting them under for a spay or teeth cleaning...
