But a quick read through this forum shows many people are NOT worthy of owning a pet! Ever meet anyone you thought, Wow that person does not need to have a pet (or even kids! ) As a responsible breeder or rescuer, you must make sure the person you are approving to take care of one of your pups is the right person. Sure things come up in life, and sometimes you have to surrender your pup... A good breeder will take the pup back any time. A good rescue, while we would not want to see pups going back into rescue, would take them back as well. We don't want people who will dump their dogs when they get bored of it, can't train it, or move someplace that doesn't allow pets.

Most often these people are strangers and we must screen thoroughly.

I think we already live in a society of "guilty until proven innocent" in many senses. This is one case where it's for the better.
