Default Spay Advice Needed

Hi all, I am a long-time lurker, first time poster in need of all your sage advice. I have had the most wonderful little Yorkie girl since June. Her name is Kiwi and she is the love of my life. She is 8 months old now and has had no heats yet. I'm told if she is spayed before her first heat that her chances of uterine or mammary cancer are eradicated.

My question is, she weighs just 2 lb 10 oz, and how safe is it? I have talked to several veterinarian's offices and none seemed to have a problem with her size. I have a preoperative exam next Tuesday. I'm just so torn about putting her through this and the chance of losing her. She will also need to have retained baby teeth pulled at the same time. Should I wait until she is bigger and risk her having a heat?

What are your experiences with this? Has anyone lost their baby to spaying? Thank you very much in advance .

Here is a picture of my little :
