Every dog is different, but I can tell you Joey couldn't go over two hours at first. They will cry when they have to go pee, and you should take them out and place them on a pad, no playing at that time, just place them back in the crate as soon as they pee. Of course you can praise them and some people give a treat, but this could make them want to get out more. If you keep them in the crate too long, they will soil the crate, and you will be teaching them, that it's okay to go pee in the same place you sleep. This isn't what you want to teach them. Week by week they can hold it a little longer, and you have to be observant and see what your dog is telling you.
