You might ask your local animal control center if they do chips, some do them at low cost. Our chip was only $30 for vet fee and lifetime membership. I know some breeders do the chip themselves, but this isn't for everyone. We did it when Joey was neutered and that's the best time to do it, no flinching that could prove dangerous. I wonder why your vet doesn't do chips? Maybe you could talk him into it before Lexi's spay?
