I kept my last yorkie in a full coat and had problems with her matting under her armpits and chest when wearing coats in winter.
I had bought her silk kimono style pajamas from Singapore. She hardly ever ended up wearing them as pjs, but I did use the silk top under her coats and that lessened the matts significantly. So maybe you could look for a silky shirt to put under the coat?
