I put a sweater on Wendell and went for a long walk last week. Three miles and about 2 hours later (we stopped for lunch) I took off the sweater. To my horror, he was completely covered in mats. I've been letting his hair grow out, and it's about 3 inches long on his back. Luckily, he's tolerant about grooming, and so with some anti-tangle spray and a wide toothed comb, 30 minutes later he was mat free again. But winter is coming, and he's going to need to wear something to keep him warm.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the type of coat/jacket/sweater that doesn't cause tangles? I also got him one of those "horse blanket" style coats that is lined with fleece and buckles under his belly, but he's only had it on for short outings. Will that work better for long walks? I'm afraid to put anything on him now!
