Thankfully ZoE is pad trained so I don't have to worry about taking her out in the rain or cold.

I'm a hardcore DIYer, so if I did have a larger dog that had to go outside and didn't like the weather, I'd build a pavilion off the back of my house, so it had coverage from the elements....cos I wouldn't want to have to stand out in the rain and get soaked either. Could you create some type of covered area for your pup?
