Mine spent 2 years eating virtually EVERYTHING, he was on grain free food too. All of a sudden we notice he developed allergies to: rice, oatmeal, corn, chicken and possibly salmon, and beef.
It can happen all of a sudden and can be anything. You said there were multiple protein flavors that you considered, I would also check the proteins in the grain free food you give normally versus the protiens in the canned food. It is possible that it could be the protein too.
