I think it all depends on where you're from and what comes with the pup. Everyone told me I was nutts to pay $1600, but my breeder gave me sooo much more with the pup (toys, beds, grooming supplies, insurance, microchip, her support, a grooming lesson, 2 year guarantee, and a guarantee that if I was having an emergency she is always there to help). I also called a not so reputable breeder and she wanted $1400 for boys and $1500 for girls (really thought it was sketchy that there was different prices for both).
But lets remember I'm a horse person, I've paid a lot of money for quality show horses in my past riding career, so when I was looking for a competitive agility companion for the small dog category, I really didn't care how much he costs.
