You are absolutely right, sires should never be 'guessed'. If unsure there is a way to find out. It involves DNA ing the mother, each puppy and any sire that may have done the deed. By comparing the DNA results of puppies to dam and prospective sires, it can be determined who sired who. Yes it is possible to end up with two different sires as fathers if both had access to the dam while in heat. Get in touch with the AKC to get your DNA kits and it will also give you info of where to submit it to get your results.
