It depends on the temperature. On that day, we walked for about 25-30 minutes, which is a fairly normal walk. In the past week, we've had below zero temperatures, so our walks are shorter, maybe 15-20 minutes.
I think you can go as long as you can keep them moving. If they get tired and slow down, they're gonna get cold.
