I (mostly) agree with the article (which may be a first - lol).
Yes, it's ridiculous that dogs are "property", but IMO elevating them to family in the court system is a big mistake. Costs will sky rocket, then nobody is going to be able to take care of them, and then shelters will be even fuller, and more will be euthanized. I was shocked to find out how much my vet pays for insurance yearly vs. how much one of her human doctors pays. There is no way pet owners are going to want to eat these costs.
I also think it's weird that you can't sue in the state of Texas if your sibling or whatev is killed.
That doesn't mean I think animals should be subject to abuse and such, but I don't think it's a good precedent.
